How to Efficiently Cut Energy Use for Homeowners

Cold drafts are often thought to be the thought to be the number reason why so many electricity bills are so high. It is essential that you have you windows weather-stripped this will keep the draft out and prevent your unit from working so hard. It’s always good to take good care of appliances for example your refrigerator, clean the coils. This keeps the refrigerator from using as much energy as it normally would. Oven usage sometimes can require a lot of energy in addition to the fact that it may even make your cooling system work harder. It’s not recommended that you never use your oven, it’s just sometimes better to pop open your microwave.

The heat that is used to make your water warm requires a lot of energy. A good way to save money on this is pipe insulation. Insulate your pipes this will keep the heat from seeping out in addition to taking some of the load away from the water heater. Another thing you could do to save money is, make an adjustment to your water heater. If you adjust the water heater to the low setting the water will still be hot enough to handle most of the things you would use warm water for.

Something as simple as putting your shades down or opening your windows can save a homeowner a ton of money and energy. Some summer nights there will be a drafty wind coming in. Why not cut off that air conditioner, open up your window and catch a breath of fresh air. When you put the shade down you keep some of the suns rays and heat out of your home. This makes the temperature in your home somewhat more stable.

Sometimes it is better to not use your dryer at all. If it is a hot day outside why have your cloths in a dryer wasting energy. Hang your cloths up and let them dry naturally. However if you do decide that you wish to use the dryer please be sure to get rid of the dryer lint. When your dryer is clogged with lint this makes the machine have to work harder and use more of the energy that you pay for. Hopefully, before you dry your cloths you give them a good wash.

Well, the next time you wash your cloths you might want to consider washing them in cold water, and not just the dark ones, all of them. There are several washing detergents that will allow you to effectively wash all of your cloths in cool water. This will save you tons of money on your electricity bill. Think about all of the hot water that goes into one load of cloths, that’s a lot of energy. That energy isn’t free.

There are several ways that homeowners and Americans in general can use to conserve energy. We all use energy in some way shape or form. But it is our responsibility as human being and citizens of the earth to make sure that we are using the energy effectively.
